Customer Review: not bad, but very "touchy"

I'm pretty new to using bluetooth devices, and my first experience was a bad one (the dreadful Targus mouse). Undeterred, I returned that mouse and got this one instead. I'm happy to say that unlike the targus mouse, this one actually works reliably.



However, after using it for a couple of weeks, I still feel it is far from ideal, and I'm not really sold on this as being my "main mouse" for my laptop.



The first problem with it is the setup. You are supposed to be able to just load in the dvd, and follow the instructions. Um, not quite. I'm using windows vista, and I have firefox set up to be my default browser. Unfortunately, the setup for this mouse is based on html, and it doesn't like firefox. Ooops. So I had to manually bring up internet explorer, load their setup utility, and run it. Not a big deal, but it was a hassle having to diagnose the problem. Once I did get the installer to run, setup was easy.



The second main gripe is the reliability. As I said, I've been using it for about two weeks, and already I've had to re-install it. After the first week it just stopped working, and I had to de-install it and re-install it to get it to work properly. *shrug* no idea why, but what a pain.



The third, and probably most important thing I dislike about this mouse is just how it works when you are using it. It is far to "twitchy" for my liking. Since I use it with my laptop, I find myself using it in all kinds of different conditions. On the couch, at the table, in the office and so forth, and often not at a proper computer desk type of setup. What I've found is that the mouse is very picky about the type of surface you use it on. If you don't have a really nice large flat surface, the mouse works very poorly. It becomes almost impossible to use. The other corded optical mice that I've worked with are MUCH more tolerant about this. The other thing is that even if you do take some care to setup a nice mouse surface, the sensitivity of the mouse is too much for me. It is usable, but just barely, and it is pretty frustrating.



All in all, I'm happy that the mouse works (I don't take that for granted anymore) and I like the idea of having a cordless mouse where I don't need a usb adapter or anything to use it. The mouse is also a good size, comfortable in your hand, and so forth. But on the downside it is real "twitchy" and I'm less than thrilled about having to re-pair it to the computer after the initial install. It seems to me like this bluetooth mechanism may be more trouble than it is worth.
